OZZFEST 2004 Gets Graphic: Media Goes Black With BLACK SABBATH
August 9, 2004Orlando, FL-based Media Evolutions has recently completed video creation, graphical elements and playback control for the national Ozzfest 2004 tour and headliner BLACK SABBATH, according to a press release.
Media Evolutions developed custom created video and graphical imagery elements that provided an eerie, gritty film look focusing on BLACK SABBATH's performance of 12 songs (which included "War Pigs", "Iron Man", and "Paranoid"). Media Evolutions shot, edited, and designed graphical elements which are displayed on an LED video wall screen (20 mil) directly behind BLACK SABBATH during their performance. Sharon Osbourne, management representation for BLACK SABBATH and Ozzy Osbourne, personally suggested various design elements and concepts utilized within the show. It was the job of Media Evolutions to take those concepts to screen, establish the look of the tour material, and integrate it with the live music. BLACK SABBATH, like most traditional rock bands, does not sync to a click track or timecode. Media Evolutions modified the "Green" video playback system to function much like a lighting operator runs lights. "This was just the tour we've been waiting for," says Mark Argenti, Media Evolutions VP. "We have a whole line of live operation features that we can integrate into the control of the 'Green', we are just waiting for the right client." Other created elements within the show consisted of a complete logo design for Zakk Wylde's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and animated images for the Ozzfest 2004 tour.
All graphical elements were produced with After Effects 6, Combustion 3, 3D Studio Max, Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, and Avid Xpress DV through the use of a complete mobile studio on location. All video playback for the tour was provided by the "Green" media server ("Green" is a proprietary media server developed by Media Evolutions).
The Ozzfest 2004 tour is managed by Dale "Opie" Skjerseth (formerly with the AC/DC "Upper Lip Tour"). Live video direction is provided by Steven Fatone of Media Evolutions (formerly with USHER, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, and BRITNEY SPEARS).
Other recent Media Evolutions projects include content creation and playback through the use of 3D imaging, 2D compositing, editing, and show control for both JESSICA SIMPSON's "Reality" Tour 2004 and the MARY J. BLIGE 2004 "Love & Life" Tour. Media Evolutions also provided content playback and video direction for USHER's "The Truth Tour".
